The first time I heard the word neurodivergent was from my son, Jacob. He asked me for the 20th time(no exaggeration) if I had sent him his cowboy boots in the mail. He lives in Victoria, BC, and had forgotten them at my house.

For the 20th time, I had told him no, I would try and remember to mail them tomorrow. It shouldn’t be that hard, after all, they were sitting wrapped in a box at the front door. I felt awful.

It was then that he apologized to me and said he was sorry that he was asking me to do something that I would have such a hard time doing since I was neurodivergent.

When he explained what that meant, I cried, as it explained so much about why there were so many moments of feeling frazzled.
